While listening to all of the heartfelt and wonderful comments buy many people at my grandpa’s funeral, it got me thinking about how many great stories and memories people have of my grandparents. Even memories that they might of inadvertantley created, and were not directly involved in…. such as the time my friends Ike and Casey bought about 15 totinos pizzas while in Florida at Grammy and Papa’s for just 1 week on vacation! That memory would of never happened without them.
And then as i was on the plane home from the funeral back to Phoenix, i started reading a book by Tom Brokaw called “the greatest generation”. It tells the story of some of the biggest heros of the WWII generation. And much of what i read reminded me of my grandparents life. So it got me thinking that i should create something that myself and others can put in writing so that the stories and memories will not be forgotten. Because as Pam said, they are simply “memory makers”!
I will never forget when PaPa was teaching us to fish at the pond farm. He said “Always look behind you before you cast, because you wouldn’t want to hook anyone.” Well looking behind us before we casted lasted for about 2 minutes and sure enough… Gretch casted her line and hooked Joe?or Steve? in the head. I always thought it was funny, probably not so funny at the time.
Or I love the Bridget story…When PaPa just got done sorting his tackle box and told Bridget directly to not touch the tackle box. Sure enough bridget couldn’t resist and ended up dumping the whole box onto the carpet. PaPa was pretty irritated with this action and raised his voice. Bridget’s comment was “You know Papa, Sometimes I like you and sometimes I don’t.”
Tooooo funny!!!
